2010 Challenge Award Information
Application Window: April 16-September 30, 2010

- For public middle school programs, grades 6-8
- For existing innovative programs implemented in the 2008-2009 or 2009-2010 school years
In the Fall of 2010, AWARDS will be presented to Public Middle Schools, grade 6-8.
Application Window: April 16, 2010 - September 30, 2010
Application Deadline: October 1, 2010
All online entries must be received by 5 p.m. on September 30, 2010. Only applications postmarked between April 16, 2010
and September 30, 2010 will be considered for the award.
Announcement of Winners: November 1, 2010
Winners will be recognized at local community and WREA events.
Who May Apply: Teachers, principals, or superintendents are invited to complete the application.

The Five Awards in 2010
(Awards will rotate between public elementary, middle, and high schools in Wisconsin according to the following schedule:
2009 Pre-Kindergarten - Grade 5
2010 Grades 6 - 8
2011 Grades 9 - 12
The next cycle of awards will be announced in 2011.)
2010 Awards
The WREA Foundation Challenge Award Program will fund five regional awards of $2,000 each for innovative educational programs in Wisconsin's public schools.
Award Criteria
- Awards will recognize an innovative educational program established in the 2008-2009 or 2009-2010 school years.
- Awards will contribute to an improved environment for the students, the school, or the community served by the school.
- Awards will be made to the school to support the program rather than to individuals.
- The individual submitting the application need not be the person who started the program.
- Entries must include a description of the program (limited to 500 words or less) and a photo of the program in action.
- The application must be approved by the school principal and/or district superintendent.
- All online entries must be received by 5 p.m. on September 30, 2010. Only applications postmarked between April 16, 2010 and September 30, 2010 will be considered for the award.
- Entries that do not comply with the eligibility requirements, the award schedule or the deadlines will be immediately disqualified.
- The entries will be reviewed by an impartial panel selected by the Wisconsin Retired Educators' Association (WREA).
- An onsite evaluation may be part of the process.
- The school will participate in local community and WREA recognition events.

- All online entries are due by 5:00 p.m. on September 30, 2010. Mail entries must be postmarked by September 30, 2010.
